About this deal

What makes the Ponyboy special is the fact it can do the Klon “thing,” but it can also be EQ’d thanks to its two-band EQ differently. Whole new appearance and the iconic ambience lights bring out futuristic and retro styles, displaying a perfect fusion, will make our soul happy whether are jamming in the bedroom, studio or on the stage. Used – This is the pedal that coined the term “Klone” (as in “clone of the Klon,” get it?). The Arc Effects’ stompbox is a recreation that replicates all components from the original design, at around… 10% of the cost or so!

The Tauren pedal adds a classic low-to medium gain overdrive to your electric guitar signal. It delivers a warm transparent overdrive that adds dynamic gain to the guitar signal without changing the tone of your electric guitar. The Wampler Tumnus is perhaps the best-made mini-Klon on the planet. Wampler pedals are sometimes hit or miss in my opinion. In this case, Wampler pedals made a great little pedal featuring the beloved tones you’ve come to expect from a Klon. A Klon-inspired drive by a reputable UK builder that places an active treble and bass EQ after the overdrive and a Mids/presence control before the overdrive. While the latter can change the overall character of the saturation from smooth to crunchy, the former controls allow “around the edges” sculpting of the driven tone without affecting the crucial character of the mids.

It’s great to see that Joyo has updated its pedal range recently. One of the inclusions into their lineup is the Joyo Tauren overdrive pedal. This pedal features the tones of the Klon with just a little bit of extra gain added to the mix. If the pedal demos we linked to in the galleries above weren’t enough to sway you one way or another, there are a series of videos where the various Klon inspired pedals get compared directly through shootouts: we’ve embedded here some of them to better inform your choice. An “as close as we can get” simulation of the Klone, it adds a lo-gain Pre Drive toggle with a mid-frequency bump and asymmetrical soft-clipping that widens the tonal options. A 3-way toggle labeled “Clipping” lets you also select between Germanium diodes, Schottky diodes or no diodes in the overdrive stage for extra dynamic and tonal flavors. This pedal will allow you to get the Klon-type tones while also being able to customize it more tonally than the original. I am not a big fan of potentiometers on the side of pedals, but maybe that’s just me?

R series effect pedals with high quality precision components, deliver way more comprehensive tones and functions compared with other pedals, aluminium-alloy housing classic stoving varnish finish. It makes this super versatile. Because of this bias control, I can tune in high gain overdrive sounds that I really love and would use, whereas I won’t use a massive wall of sound like modern Marshall sounds, because I just don't play that style of music. But I do love coaxing cool/on the edge of distortion overdrive sounds out of pedals like this. It’s very satisfying. The Uzi does it very, very well.** An affordable emulation featuring – in the words of the maker – ” a bit more beef and tighter high end.” While this is sound-wise no different to many of the others on the list, the build quality is what makes this pedal stand out. Much like the Chellee Ponyboy, the Archer Icon gets it right. You are also paying a much more premium price for this unit, so weigh up whether or not it is within your budget. Finding budget pedals that are well-made, creative, and unique can be a challenge, but in this article I'm going to show you one of my favorite budget lines that are currently being produced.

The Tauren pedal nails the classic emulation of a saught after low-to-medium gain overdrive guitar pedal at a great price. First off, this is so much more than just a pedal because it's a cab simulator/emulator and an IR loader. This is going to be a godsend for a lot of you. A lot of guitarists can't use a real guitar amp all the time. Maybe you need to play at home. Maybe you need some way to listen through headphones or run direct out into your DAW for home recording, or you play at venues where an amp isn't allowed because it's too loud in the Front of House. Where other classic ‘clones’ have fallen short, the Tauren from JOYO produces a warm transparent overdrive that adds dynamic gain to the signal without altering the tone of the guitar.
