About this deal

Device speeds will depend on the connected Wi-Fi band and the presence of any Wi-Fi interference usually impacting speeds for the 2. And rather than directly connecting the unit to my iPad, I can still use “network mode” because there will be a decent signal coming from the kitchen. A mesh built on the faster tri-band Eero Pro will keep up a bit better but still won't be a great fit. This allows the Eero 6 to be used as the base router for a mesh or to connect wired devices to the network. Once your gateway eero is installed you may use any combination of wired and/or wireless eeros to setup the rest of your network, as desired.

This also requires both adapters to be in the same room as you set up, and for you to move the second one later, which is a little counter-intuitive.Use of eero and eero-related products and services, including eero Built-in, requires creation of an eero account and agreement to eero’s Terms of Service, found at https://eero.

It’s good to have these options, but we’re not sure why they’re still stuck in beta – other routers have had full WPA3 support for more than two years now.

eeros that can be used as a gateway are the eero, eero Pro, eero 6, eero Pro 6, eero 6+ and eero Pro 6E.

If you’ve got any Alexa-compatible devices, you can also manage them through the Eero app too, thanks to the Eero 6’s built-in Zigbee hub. The more expensive Plus option used to throw in extras like an account for password manager service 1Password, the Encrypt. One of these connects to your modem, while the other lets you connect a single wired client (or a switch if you want to connect more than one device). Again, keep the eero reasonably high, and err on placing it in the open 2/3rds between floor and ceiling and half way between the furthest room needing coverage and the gateway eero. network, but you get no option to split up the bands, which could cause a problem for some devices, and you have no control over radio frequencies and channel widths.

Instead of blocky, angular shapes with big antennae poking everywhere, these devices are stout little cuboids with gentle curves and shiny white plastic jackets. To get started, you will need a compatible eero router and a compatible Echo device to extend coverage. Just out of interest, what do you think is a realistic wifi speed throughout a house with brick internal walls?
