About this deal

The Graphitint colour chart shows the dry colour (L) and the wash (R) next to each colour block with the pencil number and name followed by a single number below the initials 'LF' this stands for 'Lightfast' and is based on the ' Blue Wool scale' that Derwent uses for all their products. Used dry, Graphitint provides just a hint of colour but adding water transforms the tint into rich, vibrant shades - two great effects in a single pencil.

The colours are: port, juniper, aubergine, dark indigo, shadow, steel blue, ocean blue, slate green, green grey, meadow, ivy, sage, chestnut, russet, cool brown, cocoa, autumn brown, storm, warm grey, midnight black, mountain grey, cloud grey, cool grey and white. A rating between 0 - 8 is given to each colour with 0 being extremely poor lightfast and 8 being the most lightfast. You cannot blend them or completely erase them, and I think these only work best when mixed with water, very much like the Derwent Inktense pencils.

Use them dry when you want to add just a hint of colour, or add water to create richer, more vibrant effects.

Derwent Graphitint Paint features fine graphite particles that settle into the paper grain to create a myriad of effects. It may not have quite the same versatility of the Graphitint pencils – which can be left dry to provide only the slightest hint of colour or wet to become more vibrant – but what it lacks in that regard, it makes up for in portability. If the idea of graphite and colour in one pencil is surprising, just wait until you add water to Derwent Graphitint and it explodes into colour! With the same properties as a 4B Derwent Water- soluble Sketching Pencil, Graphitint are perfect for people looking to add a subtle hint of colour to a graphite sketch. I used the 'Ocean Blue' and 'Mountain grey' with a thin application of 'Midnight Black' to the veins. With only 24 colours in the range, it is difficult to find the right one especially for this stunning Red-legged Honeycreeper as there is only the Ocean blue colour in the set that comes close to the blues on this bird and that was quite a muted tone. You’ll be amazed at what happens when you add water to Derwent Graphitint, it just explodes into colour!
